The pantry not only provides healthy food to those in need but also empowers families through education. One of our key initiatives is a program that offers food health education and support to children at risk of or diagnosed with, type 2 diabetes, along with their families. Given the rising rates of type 2 diabetes among youth, especially in underserved communities, this program is designed to provide essential education on managing the disease through proper nutrition and lifestyle changes.
Our goal is to raise awareness while equipping children and their families with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage type 2 diabetes. We aim to support behavioral changes that encourage healthier eating habits, improve disease management, and foster long-term well-being. Additionally, we seek to create a community support network where families can share their experiences, reduce the emotional and psychological burden of managing diabetes, and feel empowered in their journey toward better health.
Join us for an engaging and supportive program where you'll hear from healthcare professionals, participate in fun games and activities, receive special gifts for attending, and enjoy a healthy dinner at each session.
Our program takes place on the 2nd and 4th Fridays at the Rose Hill Community Center (19 Lambson Lane, New Castle, DE 19720). The next session starts on October 25, 2024, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm. If you or someone you know is interested, please email us at onepurposefoodpantry@yahoo.com or call 302-553-6380.
We’d love to have you join us as we work together to manage diabetes in a fun and supportive environment!
